Questions about upgrading paintball guns?

I am a beginner at paintball and was thinking of buying a PMI Piranha GTI, I read review that this gun can be updated at the tournament (although I never play in the league) so what I'm saying is, this weapon can be upgraded with the value of a weapon much higher cost? so when I want to bring paintball to the next level is not necessary to buy another gun i can only upgrade? and what improvements could get it? the purchase of a more accurate barrel help? anything else?
