Make paintballs old, even if the lid does not expire? Also, do not expand or soften? I only ask because I just open a bag of paint balls (not good) and they are old, in any case they get stuck in my two barrels. Paint balls are put old. Depending on how and where they were stored will react accordingly. If stored in a dry … eventually hardens and dimple. Or (as with yours) which will attact moisture which causes them to expand and soften. Sometimes soft dimple balls too. Another sign of moisture is balls sticking together, but this can also be ball caused by a single flight of his painting, due to cracking.
